Senior Planner – Student Accommodation Project

Location: Exeter, UK
Salary: Up to £80,000 + Package

Overview:

We are looking for an experienced Senior Planner to lead the scheduling and planning for a high-profile Student Accommodation Project in Exeter. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the overall project schedule, ensuring that deadlines, budgets, and quality standards are met. As a Senior Planner, you will take a leadership role within the planning team, overseeing junior planners, and collaborating with multiple stakeholders across the project.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and manage the project’s master schedule, ensuring alignment with project milestones, budget, and scope.

  • Lead the scheduling efforts for all stages of the project, from design through to completion, while ensuring coordination with other departments (construction, design, procurement, etc.).

  • Liaise with the project management team, contractors, subcontractors, and other stakeholders to ensure the timely delivery of all project activities.

  • Monitor and track the progress of the project against the baseline schedule, identifying any potential delays or issues earlyon.

  • Develop recovery plans and implement mitigation strategies to address delays or changes in scope.

  • Prepare and present regular progress reports to senior management, the client, and other key stakeholders.

  • Oversee the planning team and mentor junior planners to ensure high-quality planning practices.

  • Ensure the integration of BIM (Building Information Modelling) and 3D planning into the project’s schedule where appropriate.

  • Manage project risk assessments and ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental standards.

  • Assist in preparing tender documents and supporting project bids where necessary.

  • Review and update schedules to reflect changes, site conditions, and variations.

Qualifications & Skills:

  • Education : Degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience).

  • Experience: 7+ years in project planning and scheduling, with at least 3 years in a senior planning role. Prior experience on large-scale student accommodation or residential projects is highly preferred.

  • Skills:

    • Advanced proficiency in Primavera P6, Asta Powerproject, or similar planning software.

    • Strong understanding of project management and construction processes.

    • Ability to develop and manage critical path schedules and deliverables.

    • Excellent leadership and mentoring skills, with a proactive approach to team management.

    • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal) for effective collaboration with stakeholders.

    • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
